Hi my name is Ana. I am 13 years old and have been a part of Surf City Squash since August 2007. I am proud to be part of such a special program. Surf City Squash has not only introuduced me to a new sport, and helped me keep my grades up, but it also created a second family for me. This very special family includes my teamates, coach, and everyone else that has helped me out to be where I am now today. Surf City Squash can easily be one of the most important things in my life. This program has helped me have a passion for something and that is squash. I enjoy playing squash in my spare time and want to continue doing it in the future.
“Not everyone is or will be excellent at what they do, everyone has their imperfections, but you need to fight for what you want.” And this is what Surf City Squash has taught me. I may not be perfect at squash, but at the end of the day that doesn’t matter because I know that if I want to be a successful squash player I will fight for it.

Hello, my name is Marissa. My story of getting accepted into Surf City Squash at the end of my 6th grade year is quite interesting. I was not on the original list, however, when Renato interviewed me, I gave him a reason to invite me into the family. Now, I am one of Surf City Squash’s best students. I am also the first person to have a sibling accepted into the program. Surf City Squash has helped me academically. At the end of seventh grade I was accepted into the Physician Scientist Training Program and while I was in the interview, they were all fascinated with Surf City Squash – its academic helping, community outreach, and the sport itself.
I have won 2nd place in NUSEA’s Individual Nationals two times in a row, and each one, in a different division. I love playing squash and it has become my passion. I love to joke that squash is the only sport I am good at, and to me this is true. I want to go to Stanford and play for their squash team. However, my biggest goal is that I want to be a doctor. Some people might think because of the money, but I say because I want to help people and find the cure for cancer. I want to do the impossible.

As a Pruess student, a captain of team two and having family of six, I have a pretty busy life. My name is William and I am 14 years old. I lived in San Diegomy whole life, I never traveled anywhere nor been on a plane. But that changed ever since have joined Surf City Squash. On the very first year, I flew, not with feathers and wings, but on a plane. I flew to play squash. I love to play a variety of sports that include running and squash. My coach, says I am very tall and very fit. I agree, but even if I am strong physically, I still need to be strong mentally. I am a guy that use to get As and Bs. Ever since I joined Surf City Squash, I worked even harder to get all As. Without Surf City Squash, I would probably have Cs and maybe Ds especially when you are in the top ten school in the country. Surf City Squash also made me pretty busy. I made many difficult decisions that are undoable. I have helped plan and prepare many events that involved Surf City Squash. We have done many fun community services including the Hunger Project and “entertaining” the elders. These community services made me very busy on the weekends so I would not sit on the couch watching T.V. on Sunday mornings. Surf City Squash made someone that goes out of my comfort zone at really difficult times. I am a student of Preuss, a child of six but also a part of a team, Surf City Squash.
About 9 years ago, I was on a plane to immigrate here to the United States of America from China where I was born and that ultimately changed the rest of my life. Currently I am a student in the Preuss School UCSD, a charter school in La Jolla. One of my greatest accomplishments was making my way into The Preuss School UCSD. It is a high quality and good school that will help me get into my dream college which for now, would be any ivy league college. Another one of my greatest accomplishments was being a part of the Surf City Squash family because it gave me a lot of great opportunities to be more than who I am. Surf City Squash made my life better by giving me opportunities to travel, win tournaments and titles, meet new people, have a more proactive and healthy life, and most importantly Surf City Squash gave me another family to count on for help. My name is Yan, I am 15 and with the help of so many teachers, a coach, family members, and friends, I am pround to say that I will be successful one day!
